Lessons at Cedarhill Farm
Group and private riding instruction in Hunters, Jumpers, and Equitation.
Our program builds confident riders through strong horsemanship both in and out of the saddle.
Why Many Families Lease First
Most riders progress quickly through the lower levels, often moving from Cross Rails to 2’ and then 2’6 within a few years. During that time, it is often best for their development to ride more than one horse.
For many families, leasing offers the most practical path. It allows riders to gain experience on appropriate mounts as their skills grow, without committing too early to a purchase.
How Cedarhill Thinks About Progression
Starting Out
In the early stages, riders benefit from safe, steady, predictable horses and ponies that help build confidence and strong horsemanship. These mounts are especially valuable because of their disposition and reliability.
Moving Up
Once a rider reaches the 2’6 level and beyond, they are generally ready for a horse with both a kind disposition and greater athletic ability. As ability and experience increase, pricing and expectations usually increase as well.
When Ownership Starts to Make More Sense
Riders often begin the 3’ division on a horse that may carry them through the remainder of their junior career. At that stage, purchasing may become the more practical long-term decision.
