2009 Extreme English Cowboy Carnival Extravaganza- A Success!
On Friday before the Sunday event, the weather couldn't have been better- a sunny and crisp day as we set up the tent, tables, chairs, and set the locations for the various stands. On Saturday, the day dramatically changed, now a dark, cold, dreary, and angry day with rainfall increasing as the day progressed, throughout the day, and into the night. By Sunday there was only a slight improvement from the day previous as there wasn't the rain fall, just the occasional misting from the continuous dark, cloud cover. Despite this dreary day-now not just a forecast, but an actuality, our event- The Extreme English Cowboy Carnival Extravaganza at Cedarhill Farm -the benefit for St.Jude Children's Hospital anticipated and planned for by countless volunteers and participants for upwards of ten months was an overwhelming success.
It was thanks to all who had put an enormous effort into the day, some
starting last February, others starting the day of the event. Regardless, it
was apparent that all who helped made this event the success that it was. We are still counting the pledges, and sponsorships which are still coming in, we have tallied up some of the other revenue; the carnival revenue, the food revenue, T-shirts, pie throwing, etc. We are at. get this. OVER twenty thousand dollars!
The Obstacle course was not without some difficult elements which to some ponies and riders was too overwhelming; they chose to "check out" bucking their way across the field, scared of hula hoops, and picking up buckets of water. The poker trail ride was also equally tough for some; with the water level up from all the rain the night before; despite the help of Brian, Max, and Josef, the creek crossing was exciting! With lots of exciting tales to tell for the year to come we nonetheless feel that our riders, participants and volunteers really enjoyed themselves and should feel proud to have been a part of something larger themselves; contributing to a great cause.
Lisa O'Connell our official registrar has been left with the tedious, but
very important job of tallying the pledges and all revenue coming in. For
all of our pledge earners, she is ordering the additional prizes awarded by
St. Jude Children's Hospital. We will send out an email to let everyone know when they arrive.
